Clil - Art
Tutor: Daniela Mochi (conversation teacher)
During the months of April and May we have been engaged in a project about Aboriginal Art with our English conversation and Art teachers, Mrs. Mochi and Mrs. Salerno. Through a number of different activities, using websites, videos and pictures, we have discovered a little about Australia and the Aboriginal people: we have learned about their history, culture and art.
We realised that the Aboriginal people did not have a written language, so they used art, as an alternate method of writing down stories of cultural importance. We have learned about the symbols and the colours they used to express their meanings, and the stories they narrated on the objects they used to paint, which could be boomerangs, tree bark or musical instruments.
Then the part that was most fun: with acrylic colours and brushes we have experimented with paint and used Aboriginal dot art to create our own boomerang stories . It was hard to find a boomerang made of wood or thick paper, but in the end we all managed to! On our boomerangs our imagination and creativity could fly free!! We imagined we were Aborigines and we painted our own story using the Aboriginal symbols. Then we practiced the pronunciation and we told our stories to the class while the teacher was filming us. It was fun learning English this way !!
Special thanks to...
